In Lansdale, automated license plate readers are stirring a familiar question: how much monitoring is too much?

A community-built license plate reader map identifies a camera near South Broad Street, while additional devices appear across Montgomery Township, Hatfield and Towamencin.

Listings include shopping-center lots and busy intersections, but not every mapped device is a Flock camera.

That distinction matters for neighbors trying to understand who operates each system and how long information remains stored.

Supporters point to potential crime-fighting benefits; critics worry about privacy and limited oversight.

For Lansdale residents, the map offers a starting point, not a complete inventory.
